Google made a very smart move of transforming Android into an open source operating system and this is beginning to pay off: soon Android might become the number 2 OS in the world.
The Gartner Research Company released their predictions regarding smart phones operating systems, and Android is placed on the second place, right after Research in Motion, with a 17.2% global market share.
Symbian is still on the first place, with 41.2% market share.
RIM should start to worry for their 18.2% they own. The evolution of Android is very remarkable, especially if we consider the fact that 1 year ago Android only had 1.8% market share.
